I’ve previously written about crowdfunding for charities and I am encouraged by the launch of a new crowdfunding site has been launched aimed more at individuals seeking to raise funds for their own cause.

Yimby has been launched by the same people who run JustGiving. It follows the same model as other crowdfunding sites including the important threshold limit which means that it you don’t reach your target, you don’t get anything.

People using this service should also be wary of the 5% charge plus credit / debit card charges. The site also avoids the question of Gift Aid and as such we can assume that funds raised via this process are not eligible for Gift Aid. For both of these reasons, I would recommend that people look at the alternatives such as traditional fundraising sites and other crowdfunding sites as mentioned in my earlier post.
